Poison Kiss - Tests Prove Lead in Brand Lipsticks - Toxic Cosmetics

According to product tests results, October 11 2007 by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics:

More than half of 33 brand‐name lipsticks (61%) contained detectable levels of lead

Among the top brands testing positive for lead were:
• L’Oreal Colour Riche “True Red” – 0.65 ppm
• L’Oreal Colour Riche “Classic Wine” – 0.58 ppm
• Cover Girl Incredifull Lipcolor “Maximum Red” – 0.56 ppm
• Christian Dior Addict “Positive Red” – 0.21 ppm

Health Hazards

Exposure to lead can cause:
Learning, language and behavioral problems- lowered IQ, impulsiveness, reduced school performance, increased aggression, seizures and brain damage, anemia, and, after long exposure, damage to the kidneys.

miscarriage, reduced fertility in both men and women, hormonal changes, menstrual irregularities and delays in the onset of puberty in girls.

Pregnant women and young children exposed to lead are particularly vulnerable. Lead easily crosses the placenta and enters the fetal brain, where it interferes with normal development.

A quick list of lipsticks with grossly high amounts of lead:

Lipsticks with lead levels higher than 0.1 ppm
Maybelline NY Moisture Extreme Scarlet Simmer 0.11 LʹOreal CT 08/27/07
Cover Girl Incredifull Lipcolor Maximum Red 0.12 P & G CA 08/23/07

Valentine's Day Makeup Tips #2 - Smoky Eye Makeup

Never passe, smokey eye makeup has been a staple classic for awhile now.

But wait a minute, it didn't just come about this decade.

History
Some say that it has been around for ages in what is known as kohl makeup with origins from the Indian culture and far back into the Bronze age.

It was already used in the early 90s period.

And most probably it made its way into the mainstream having been fueled by cosmetics companies' fat ad budgets in magazine spreads and influencing hot girls (opinion leaders) and stylists altogether.

Top: Cindy Crawford in her heydays in the 90s.

I wouldn't call it a revival of the past, as I do believe, that sometimes the mainstream does take its time in adopting a trend.

Whatever it is, its certainly a good thing (unlike those red skinnies which could have really been done away for good)

Why?
Anyhow, I shan't bore you with a debate. Here's one of my fav makeup looks on girls.
Never fails to evoke a sultry, sexy look. And Men love it.

I think the reason being it actually looks like a "morning-after, slept-in" look, I agree.
And Men love that.

How
So anyways here's the how. An example from Amy B.

Here's how you should look:

Above: my favorite Dior ads. Irresistably sexy

And how you shouldn't:

Above:Not recommended for girls and guys that put on makeup

Jiffy Eye Shadow Kit - Makeup In an Instant!

We like it fast & furious (effective).

With Patience as a diminishing virtue in our contemporary society, we want things in an instant. Noodles, cars, cash, love.

The pursuit of instant gratification has now taken its course on make-up.

Yes. MAKE UP.

In the form of instant eye shadow kits. These press-on eye shadow kits allow instant application of professionally created eye-shadow designs without applicators or mess. And yes, without the usual amount of time or skill, for that matter.

They retail between 18-30USD in kits consisting of several colors/looks.

Australian company - Majic Beauty
USA company - Color On Professional
